Barn Quilt Trail to Feature A Road Rally Event
What do you get when you cross a scenic drive and an intense scavenger hunt? You get a Road Rally, one of the least expensive and most fun motorsports around!
The Frontier Barn Quit Trail of Fulton County, in conjunction with the Susquehanna Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), is sponsoring the Inaugural Frontier Barn Quilt Trail Road Rally on October 6, 2018. To promote the accomplishment of the Frontier Barn Quilt Trail obtaining status as the largest of its kind in the state, the Rally route will enable both local and out of county participants to enjoy a large selection of the barn quilt blocks featured on the trail.
This Rally will be an event officially sanctioned by the Susquehanna Region of the SCCA, but you do not need to be a member of that organization to participate. This group is south central PA’s premier auto event club and they hold numerous events in a variety of styles throughout the area. While there are different types of Road Rally styles, this one will be GTA—Game, Tour and Adventure.
This style of Rally is best described as a scavenger hunt on wheels. It does not involve speed, and teams do not need specialized equipment for their cars. As long as the vehicle and driver are licensed for public road driving, they are eligible to participate. Scoring is based on the team’s ability to stay on course and correctly answer questions about things that they see along the Rally route. Each team requires a driver and a navigator, which offers a wonderful opportunity to get youths involved.
The Frontier Barn Quilt Trail was started in 2014 with the mission of encouraging community participation in the rich rural culture of Fulton County. It was intended to celebrate the diverse history of the county and honor the quilting tradition, all while trying to encourage the preservation of unique architectural barns and buildings. It has expanded to become the largest barn quilt trail in the state of Pennsylvania and proudly includes 202 quilt blocks displayed throughout the county. These blocks range in size from 2’x2’ to large 8’x8’ squares, all colorfully displaying a wide variety of patterns.
The Barn Quilt Trail currently features four distinct driving tours designed to be self-guided and easy to follow. For the Road Rally, trails will be combined and clues provided so that participants receive around a two hour driving and navigation experience. The Rally will begin and end at the Fulton County Fair Grounds. The rest of the route will be part of the adventure and will not be announced until the Rally begins.
Those interested in this inexpensive, scenic event can register online at MotorsportReg.com for just $25 per team (driver and navigator), or on the day of the event for $35. You do not need to be a member of the SCCA or the Barn Quilt Trail to participate. You only need a legally registered vehicle. Everyone is welcome!
