The red barn in the barn quilt block represents the barn that was originally built on the farm sometime between 1906 and 1929 when it was owned by Adam and Catherine Gregory and then sold to David and Rhoda Gregory. At that time the location of the homestead was closer to Licking Creek and the mountains. In 1929 David sold the farm to his son, Thomas. At that time a house and the out buildings were built where the present farm is along Big Cove Tannery Road in Thompson Township. In 1946, Tom sold the farm to my parents Bruce and Virginia Bivens where they started dairy farming and raising three children; David, Nancy and Harry. In October of 1959, the original red barn burned down and was replaced with the present white barn. The four red, white and blue corners of the quilt block represent the colors of our country and the service that both my parents gave to their country. My father, Bruce, served in the Army Air Corps during WW II as a diesel mechanic. My brother David continued farming after passing of our parents and upon his retirement, our brother, Harry’s son Dustin and his wife , Jamie Morton continue to farm the land and make a home for their family, Luke and Avery. This farm now has the 3rd generation farming the farm with the 4th generation being raised there.
From left is youngest son of 1st generation - Harry Bivens; his sister, Nancy Bivens Younker & Luke & Avery Bivens - children of Jame & Dustin Bivens. Dustin is the son of Harry & the 3rd generation of Bivens to live at and work the farm.
