On this year's bus tour we’ll be returning to the Akersville Community Festival. The 2018 Barn Quilt Photo Contest entries were displayed at the Fall Folk Festival Art Show at the Fulton County Library.First Place winner was Sophie Cutshaw of Mercersburg with her late afternoon photo of the Henry family's block "Rural Felicity"in Clear Ridge, Dublin Township.Second place went to April Leese's "Gem Bridge Star"located on Gem Bridge Road in Belfast Township.Third Place went to Tom Duffy of Todd Township.Honorable Mention went to Jean Price, Sam Jackson, Linda Crampton, and Cormac Houpt. The Frontier Barn Quilt Trail and the Susquehanna Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) held the first Frontier Barn Quilt Trail Road Rally Saturday October 6th. Starting at the Fulton County fairgrounds a mix of car enthusiasts began a 59 mile scavenger hunt. The drive featured 37 of Fulton County’s 200-plus barn quilts and five checkpoints. Each team consisted of a driver and a navigator to wind through the scenic route in order to find answers to questions. The rally was not based on speed but on answers to the questions. The Frontier Barn Quilt Trail Committee is working to produce a full color book of the over two hundred barn quilts located throughout our beautiful county. With the Frontier Barn Quilt Trail being the largest Barn Quilt Trail in the state of Pennsylvania, we feel it appropriate to produce a quality product that folks can enjoy for years to come.

The Fulton County Historical Society Barn Quilt Tour for 2018 was a great success. We had 2 buses, with 80 people, a beautiful day, and saw over 70 barn quilts. With our expert narrators, Mike Crampton and Dick Miller that added to all of the rich history of the county. We stopped in Akersville and had a great homemade lunch in the Akersville Community Church. We will be touring nearly 40 new and unique barn quilts, and we are also offering two festivals for one. Yes, not only will you get to enjoy the Fulton Fall Folk Festival, but we will also be visiting the Akersville Fall Festival. Over 50 vendors featuring a broad spectrum of crafts, apparel, antiques, vintage farm equipment and more will be set up on the ball field. Lunch will be available featuring delicious homemade soups, sandwiches and desserts and all by donation only. The challenge: To embrace one’s inner artist to capture the beauty of various barn quilts in their rural environment, looking for picturesque settings, not just the barn quilts in mind.
With that challenge in mind, forty-seven entries made up the First Annual Frontier Barn Quilt Photography Contest. Judged by Lisa Clevenger of Lisa’s Photo Creations and Cindy Glessner of the Fulton County Quilt Club, three winners and several honorable mentions were announced.

The Fulton County Historical Society Bus Tours held during the 2017 Fulton Fall Folk Festival were great events enjoyed by many. Both the morning and afternoon tours were sold out and over 100 unique barn quilts were viewed in their rural and municipal settings. Scattered throughout Fulton County, visitors will find nearly 150 painted quilts mounted on barns, sheds, homes, and businesses along scenic roadways. The project is called the Frontier Barn Quilt Trail of Fulton County. It is meant to highlight Fulton County’s history, heritage and rural nature. Following three successful bus tours during last year’s Fulton Fall Folk Festival, the Frontier Barn Quilt Committee is sponsoring new tours for this year’s festival.
